I don’t know why there isn’t a lot of interaction on these message boards. I know there is a great community of fans for CFN so I don’t get why there isn’t more posted on here, at least when a new episode comes out. I am going to start posting a new topic for each new episode that comes out. If any of you are like me, I always have thoughts and opinions right after I hear a new episode. I just started a thread for episode 192, so feel free to comment on what you watched for Christmas this year or on whatever caught your interest during the show. I also listen to The Film Vault, and they always get at least 20 or so comments right after a new show. We can do better!!!!!December 27, 2013 at 4:48 am #4214
I think message boards have fallen out of favor a bit, I imagine a lot of the interaction goes on through Facebook and Twitter, neither of which I care for much and rarely use.
Glad to hear you getting back into it though! We were getting posts about most episodes for a while but they kinda petered out, maybe this will kick something back up!December 28, 2013 at 8:58 pm #4219
🙂 Look at it this way: the message boreds are an exclusive club, not a place for the hoi polloi like facebook where every spotty teenager can show up and tell you what he had for breakfast…… 😉
We are not facebook riff-raff or Twitter’s cannon fodder, we are the few, the proud, the nerdiest…… 😛
All kidding aside…. maybe we are still thinking of podcasts in terms of scheduled radio shows where you could expect everyone to listen in at the same time and then react at the same time.
But podcast listeners are all in different “time bubbles”. Many people may not listen to the podcast for two or three weeks, and then listen to three episodes in one go. So they are not “present” to discuss an episode which another person has just listened to and has started a thread about — and by the time they have listened to it and would maybe like to discuss it, the first person has already “moved on” and does no longer remember the episode that well, or is not that interested any more.
What I am trying to say is that the interaction between fans is slightly hampered by the “temporal fragmentation” of the listenership, which in itself is born out of the very nature of podcasts (and is their strength: the availability untethered by schedules).December 30, 2013 at 12:49 am #4225
the ease of twitter of facebook vs the ease of getting registered here and the strange layout and the register issues I am sure has a ton to do with it.
However I personally think the #1 issue is the fact the forums are never mentioned in the podcast. There are never any discussions or shout outs of whats going on. Matter of fact I really do not think Graham and Chris even come here. At least that is my impression.December 31, 2013 at 7:29 am #4228
:cheer: …..just as I said: “exclusive”
We can’t allow just anyone coming on these boards merely on the grounds that they happen to be the hosts of the podcast…… 😆January 2, 2014 at 4:40 am #4241
@Hallsofvallhalla I know I think that’s lame too. When I first started listening, they mentioned things people wrote on the boreds (especially hilarious when Graham destroyed that guy that was defending 21 Jump Street when he hadn’t even seen it). They would talk about how people were taking sides on Tree of Life and things like that. They don’t mention it at all anymore. I just like this better than Facebook because FB is not really the place for getting into longer discussions, or at least that’s how I feel. But yes, the site is very much in need of a different layout I agree. And I did have issues registering as well now that you mention it. It was kind of a big hassle. They just need to revamp the whole site in general.January 4, 2014 at 7:08 am #4245
they may have a web guy but I have offered my services, I am a web developer/ software engineer and would donate my time willingly if they needed it. Even if they do not change anything at least swing by and say hey!
