As the new moderator, I want to streamline the message boards and clean-up for easy perusal and view. I will be moving around threads and subforums, but nothing will be deleted.
If you have any suggestions, I will open a new suggestion thread that will be stickied. Old suggestion threads will be archived because many of them are from years ago. If you have already posted a suggestion, PM me (preferably with a link) and I should be able to track it down.
Some of you may have noticed some lag when navigating the website. Bryan is working hard to streamline everything that goes into the website, but this may take some time. Please be patient and nice to him while this is happening!
This thread is only for forum news. The OP will be updated with relevant information and subsequent posts will be hidden as time passes. I will update the thread title if something new comes up.
Thanks for reading and HAN SHOT FIRST!February 7, 2019 at 2:08 pm #12064
My apologies for my disappearance; I had a family emergency over the holiday.
I’ve updated the threads and started moving stuff around.
Do you like how the forums are currently set up?
Are my posts cluttering up your forums?
Is there a better way you would like the forums set-up?
Let me know! Speak now before I make changes and refuse to redo them!February 14, 2019 at 1:31 am #12246
maybe I missed something and this has already been discussed, but when I log in this is the site I’m redirected to, which feels random: http://www.comedyfilmnerds.com/message-boards/topic/message-boreds-suck-and-its-all-our-fault/
Is that on purpose, or is this just a glitch?
The other question is: can the boards be set up in such a way that I can edit/delete my old posts? I searched for something recently and saw how much stuff I posted that is simply irrelevant or out-of-date now. It’s like I filled half the boards with posts about 4-year-old BBC radio broadcasts, etc. So I’d like to have the option to remove stuff, or update the links/infos I posted.
Other than that, I can see no immediate need for any changes. The sub-categories of the boards seem to provide a good structure. Maybe you could ask Chris if there should be an additional sub-section for his “Abyss” in case people want to discuss something?? [as a sub-section of the “general forums” or of the “random off-topic blathering”, perhaps] Just occured to me because of the new “Abyss” section in the general menu of the CFN homepage.

scrug, how are you logging into the website? I.e., do you start from the CFN webpage, click on message boards, and then login? At this time, I’m unable to replicate your issue.
I will ask Chris about an Abyss subsection, that’s a great idea!April 4, 2019 at 9:30 pm #12473
Hi, I jump directly to this page (which I have bookmarked): http://www.comedyfilmnerds.com/message-boards/ and that’s where I log in. I am then automatically redirected to the “message boreds suck” thread mentioned above.
Any thoughts about the chance to edit/delete old posts?April 5, 2019 at 5:33 pm #12481
I don’t know anything about how this new message bored system works, but the sub-forums could probably be collapsed down into just a few big ones if that’s possible. Back in the days when this place was hoppin’ (~10 regular posters, sometimes as many as TWO or THREE at a time(!)) I went a little overboard I think in creating different sub-forums. CFN Graphics, for instance, has no need to be it’s separate thing, and really didn’t at the time :pApril 25, 2019 at 6:24 pm #12505
Scrugs, sorry, at this time I’m unable to replicate your issue.
Editing and deleting old posts is a great idea, but we are focusing on streamlining the website at the moment (which I’m sure a few of you have noticed is not optimal.) Once that issue has been resolved, I will bug Bryan about editing rights for your own posts ^_^
Jesse, I wish it was easier, but I’m not very familiar with wordpress’ message boards. At this time, I think the only way to do it is to edit each individual thread and move it to the correct subforum O.o
I’m creating the Conversations from the Abyss section shortly!April 25, 2019 at 7:21 pm #12508
Sorry, Jesse, I can’t figure out how to create a sub-forum and I’m frustrated by the website’s slowness.
Feel free to create a thread in the General forum, as that’s where Chris would prefer to have it. Later, I’ll make a Conversations from the Abyss sub-forum.
On that same note, does anyone have objections to condensing the movie forum to a single forum?May 10, 2019 at 5:17 am #12521
Personally, I think it makes sense to have a separation between reviews on the one hand, and other film-related discussions on the other. But it does not matter much either way.
